NUCCA

NUCCA is the abbreviation for the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association. It is a progressive highly advanced procedure that is extremely precise and gentle unlike any other kind of care. NUCCA restores the entire body from an imbalanced, stressed position to a balanced, relaxed position. Doing so returns the spine and body to balance removes stress from the nerve system which enables the body to work better and gives relief to people with a wide variety of health issues. The upper cervical adjustment depends on exact mathematical calculation, physics, and biomechanics.

The focus NUCCA rests on correcting the Atlas Subluxation Complex (ASC). A misaligned atlas causes unilateral shortening of the leg length and causes compensatory postures often affecting the spine. As the head shifts off center, the pelvis must also shift. When the head and neck misalign, the muscles of the back will also tighten. All these factors together help define the effects of a misaligned atlas and spine which is the ASC.

There is never any popping, twisting or cracking in the NUCCA procedure. In fact, many barely feel anything while lying on the table. NUCCA is a manual method (done by hand as opposed to instrument) of adjusting the atlas subluxation complex. It is based on 3D x-ray studies that determine the correct line of drive or vector of force. X-rays are taken and analyzed before any adjustment is made. X-rays determine in three planes (Sagittal, A-P, and Vertex) a resultant force vector to adjust the vertebrae back to the vertical axis. Precisely aligned X-ray equipment and optimum patient positioning is critical. Less than 1 mm of C1 laterality can trigger imbalance between inhibitory and facilitory mechanisms. The average three-millimeter atlas subluxation would be a forty-two percent distortion of the cord`s necessary static and dynamic physiological space. This space-taking lesion is the cause of many upper motor neuron lesions, as well as patchy neurological deficits.

NUCCA was formed in 1966 as result of the work by Dr. Ralph Gregory, D.C. Dr Gregory had started working closely with Dr. John F. Grostric, D.C., in 1941 in the attempt of perfecting B.J. Palmer’s H.I.O. technique. Dr. Gregory helped teach the Grostic work for eighteen years beginning in 1946 with the first Grostic seminar. It was not until after Dr. Grostic had passed away in 1964 and numerous requests were made that Dr. Gregory started teaching his unique work.

NUCCA is the largest upper cervical chiropractic organization. There are approximately 300 NUCCA chiropractors worldwide.
